Prenatal screening - PNS
During your check-ups, we would like to discuss the topic of prenatal screening. Prenatal screening is a way to check your baby for possible congenital conditions. You can have tests to find out whether the baby in your womb has a disorder or a physical abnormality. This is called prenatal screening. It is entirely up to you to decide if you want to have these scans.
There are two types of screening:
1. The NIPT
The NIPT (non-invasive prenatal test) is a blood test. This test checks your blood for signs that your child may have Down syndrome, Edwards syndrome, or Patau syndrome.
2. Screening for physical abnormalities: the 13-week scan and the 20-week scan
This test checks whether your child has a physical abnormality. A physical abnormality means that a part of the baby's body looks different from what is considered typical.
